Meet the Founder
Welcome to A Better Tomorrow, INC—a dream I built not just from my passion, but from my life experiences. My name is Floda Bailey, and this organization was born from the challenges I’ve faced and overcome. I firmly believe that to successfully manage and operate an organization like this, one must have both knowledge and lived experience.
You see, I’ve been in the shoes of the very people I aim to help. I know what it feels like to be denied housing because of a background that doesn’t define who I am today. That personal experience fuels my commitment to opening doors for others who’ve walked similar paths.
I’m a proud single mother to my son, who’s now 25 years old. When this idea first sparked in my heart, he was just 11. Growing up in Gary, Indiana, I saw poverty all around me, though I was fortunate to come from a middle-class, hardworking family. My Christian upbringing taught me resilience and faith—values that have carried me through the darkest of times.
However, life took a turn I never expected. During my first year of college, I lost my way. Instead of focusing on studies, I fell into a lifestyle that didn’t reflect my values. I eventually began dealing drugs, driven by shame and the allure of fast money. But when I found out I was pregnant in 1999, everything changed. My son gave me a reason to stop, to rebuild, and to return to the person I was raised to be.
In 2002, I earned my Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and secured a job at Hewlett-Packard. Yet, my past caught up with me, and I lost that opportunity. It was a devastating blow, and I spent years running from my fears. In 2005, I decided to stop running, face the consequences, and turn my life around once and for all.
After serving my time, I faced the same barriers many ex-offenders encounter—denial of housing, lack of employment opportunities, and judgment based on my past. Despite attending workshops and training programs, I was repeatedly turned away. It took over a year of relentless searching before someone gave me a second chance with a job. That opportunity changed my life, and I’ll never forget it.
Fast forward 25 years, and I’m now a successful business owner with a loving family and a life I’m proud of. But I haven’t forgotten the struggle, the stigma, and the doors slammed in my face. This is why A Better Tomorrow, INC exists—to give people hope and a second chance.
My goal is simple: to create opportunities for individuals who, like me, have made mistakes but are ready to change their lives. I want to be a beacon of hope, a reminder that one mistake doesn’t define your future. At A Better Tomorrow, we believe everyone deserves a chance to rewrite their story and build a brighter future.
This organization is my way of paying it forward, and I am honored to walk alongside those striving for their second chance. Together, we can make a difference—one life, one opportunity, and one better tomorrow at a time.
Our mission at A Better Tomorrow is to transform lives by providing first-time offenders with a fresh start through safe housing, essential resources, and tailored educational services. We empower individuals to overcome their past challenges and equip them with the skills needed for personal and professional success. In addition, we are committed to extending our impact by contributing to disaster relief efforts, helping communities rebuild after hurricanes, wildfires, floods, and tornadoes. Together, we are fostering resilience, creating second chances, and offering hope for a better tomorrow for individuals and communities in need.
